HISTORY

The Peugeot 302 DS DARL’ MAT is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1937. In 1936 Peugeot launched the 302 model and Emile Darl’ Mat who was one of Peugeot’s most successful representatives of the 1930s teamed up with coachbuilder Marcel Pourtout to produce a fully customized Peugeot. Peugeot delivered the chassis to Darl’ Mat, where a number of mechanical upgrades were installed and a very slim and low body design with separate front and rear fenders was achieved.

The French Emile Darl’ Mat team with Jean Pujol and Marcel Contet at the wheel of Peugeot 302 DS DARL’ MAT n.26 finished seventh in the 24 hours of Le Mans 1937 with a gap of forty-one laps to winner. The race won by twin car Bugatti 57G Tank n.2 with Jean Pierre Wimille and Robert Benoist. In second place came the Delahaye 135CS n.14 led by Paul and Mongin with a gap of seven laps, while in third place the Delahaye 135CS n.10 of Dreyfus and Stoffel with a gap of twelve laps.

In the race the numerous French teams gave life to a close fight, conditioned by the accident that caused the death of two pilots, the English Pat Fairfield and the French Rene Kippeurt.
