SEEDS OF OSAGE ORANGE - MACLURA POMIFERA

Thorny tree with orange-like fruits. Ornamental. Hedges. Timber. The leaves are used to feed silkworms. A dye is extracted from its roots. The wood is highly appreciated to make posts, bows, tool handles etc… Its fruit can be used as an ornamental element.

Deciduous tree up to 15m tall, with oval pointed and dark green leaves. Little green yellowish flowers looking like an orangey and warty globe filled with seeds. 

It adapts to any types of soils.

Direct sowing for fresh seeds from november to February. For seeds that have been stored to obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold for 90 days before the sowing.
It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
