Turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa-riding Bill Warner has become one of the fastest men on two wheels, delivering a sublime 502.027km/h (311.945mph) pass at the former Loring Air Force Basen in Limestone, Maine.
Warner’s previous best was a 439.924km/h (273.356mph) effort in 2010 (see video below).
“Today here at Loring we came to do some racing,” Warner told the Bangor Daily News. “We were lucky enough to get a clean pass early this morning. The wind was down. We became the first motorcycle to go over 300 miles per hour.
“The big part of it, after the speed happens, is trying to stop the bike. Here at Loring Air Force Base, there is a mile shutdown to slow the vehicles down and I used every bit of it. The bike was bouncing, hopping, skipping and sliding. Needless to say, I got it stopped safely. It was a little scary.”
Warner’s Hayabusa is a work of art and produces 650hp (485kW) and 426Nm, complete with a Garrett turbocharger.
There are a slew of other performance mods, sprinkled with a few stock items, including bearings (main and big end) and the crankcase.
The frame is also OEM, but has been massaged by McIntosh with a five-degree increase in rake to keep the whole plot more stable. Total weight is 268kg.
