Bulbs cylindrical on short rhizomes forming dense clumps. Stems usually 20-30cm tall. Leaves 15-20cm long by 2-5mm wide. Flowers 6-10mm long, narrowly bell-shaped, pale purple-blue, six to many in nodding spherical umbels, summer. Nepal to Bhutan and south-western China, on open slopes and amongst rocks at 3000-4800m. Allied to A. beesianum and a good rock garden plant.
