Botanical Description

Aurinia saxatile, A. arduinii). Woody based perennial or subshrub forming loose deep mats to 90cm or more across and 20-30cm tall. Leaves rosetted, obovate to oblanceolate, sometimes shortly pinnately lobed, grey-white downy. Flowers 4-6mm wide, bright yellow, in branched, corymbose racemes. Central Europe to Balkan peninsula. A.s. subsp. orientale differs only in tiny botanical details, and subsp. megalocarpum, from Turkey, has slightly larger seed pods. A.s. 'Citrinum' has lemon-yellow flowers; 'Compactum' has a dwarfer, denser habit; 'Plenum' ('Flora Pleno') bears double flowers, 'Dudley Neville' produces flowers of a biscuit-yellow; 'Tom Thumb' is smaller than 'Compactum', usually about 10cm in height; 'Variegatum' has somewhat distorted cream-splashed leaves.
