Botanical Description

Loosely to densely cushion or mat-forming with stems 10-25cm long. Leaves rich green, overlapping, linear to falcate, 6-15mm long, awn-tipped. Flowers pink, up to 8mm long, in head-like clusters amongst the foliage. Greece and Turkey, at 1800-2500m , in short grassland, marble screes and limestone rock crevices. The shortly-hairy plant listed in nurserymens' catalogues as A.n. puberula is correctly A.n. subsp. hirtella, sometimes also confused with A. sintenisii.
