Botanical Description

Bulb 3cm across, often with many bulbils. Stem 10-20cm tall. Leaves five to seven, shining green, lanceolate, all alternate or the upper in a whorl of three. Flowers one to three narrowly campanulate, reddish-brown or purplish, not tessellated, without scent. Tepals 1.6-2.2cm, with a small nectary at the base. Style trifid, 4-7mm, the branches 2-4mm, recurved. Capsule not winged. Southeastern Turkey and north-western Iran, on earthy slopes, usually below late snow patches and in oak scrub, at 1800-3500m.
