More or less tufted, with ascending to erect stems 5-10cm or more in height. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 1-2.5cm long, entire or slightly crenate-dentate, glabrous or almost so. Flowers deep blue, up to 7mm wide, four to twelve in short, compact terminal racemes, late summer. Circumpolar and mountains farther south especially in Europe, in grassland and stony habitats. Not choice enough for the rock garden.
