Conopid Fly

A Conopid fly, probably Physocephala rufipes (Diptera: Conopidae).  Also on the UK checklist is Physocephala nigra which is similar but not as common.  As with other Conopids, these flies are bee parasites and they lay their eggs between the abdominal plates of live bees.

Photos taken in the field below Chazey Wood, near Caversham, UK, on 2011-06-14.
