But his talent extends far beyond voice work, and he has proven himself to be a gifted actor in a variety of roles.
Azaria got his start in theater, appearing in a number of productions both on and off Broadway. In 1989, he made his Broadway debut in the play The House of Blue Leaves, which earned him critical acclaim and a Tony Award nomination. He went on to appear in several other Broadway productions, including Spamalot, and The Farnsworth Invention.
Azaria has also made a name for himself in film, appearing in a number of popular movies over the years. He has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Steven Spielberg, Mike Nichols, and Garry Marshall. Some of his most notable film roles include his portrayal of Agador Spartacus in "The Birdcage," his turn as Gargamel in "The Smurfs" movies, and his role as the villainous Venom in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
Despite his success in television and film, Azaria has never lost his love for the stage. In 2024, he co-produced The White Chip at MCC.
