EXCLUSIVE: Perennial Brit hardman Ray Winstone has been signed up by WME. The actor, who’s put in more memorable performances over the years than I have fingers and toes, is one of the film biz’s most dependable character actors. He has provided game support in The Gunman with Sean Penn, Noah opposite Russell Crowe, Snow White And The Huntsman with Charlize Theron, and Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-winning The Departed alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson.
Winstone’s career has displayed remarkable longevity. He first burst onto the scene in 1979 in iconic Brit prison drama Scum, as a vicious young offender. Since then, he has seared himself as one of the UK’s most respected and recognisable actors. While he has made a name for himself as a go-to tough guy, he is far more than simply a heavy. He pulled off two astounding performances in Gary Oldman’s Nil By Mouth and Tim Roth’s The War Zone as an abusive alcoholic and an incestuous father, respectively. Those performances are up there with the very best of them, with Nil By Mouth deservedly earning Winstone a BAFTA nomination for best actor.
Winstone will continue to be repped by Michael Wiggs at the UK’s Creative Artists Management and managed by David Unger at Three Six Zero Entertainment.
