Herbert Azalea | Rhododendron 'Herbert'

The 'Herbert' azalea, developed by Joseph Gable of Stewartstown, PA, is densely branched with glossy, evergreen foliage and sports gorgeous, intensely-colored, pink/purple blooms in spring.

The 'Herbert' azalea will thrive in acidic (roughly 5.0 to 5.5), moist but well-draining soil.  Good drainage is important; this shrub does not like wet feet. Mulching will help this shallow-rooted shrub retain moisture and stabilize soil temperatures.

It prefers dappled sunlight, especially in hot climates.  Protect from strong winds and do not plant near trees from the walnut family, as most azaleas and rhododendrons are sensitive to the juglone produced by the roots.
