Balou du Rouet offspring

Hi! I have a 2 1/2 year old Balou du Rouet gelding that has been briefly started and is growing up a bit more in pasture until he is 3. Anyone else have experience with these youngsters in terms of training? Suggestions based on your own experience? Mine is lovely and while I can’t wait to ride him he is still growing and I don’t want to do too much too soon with him. Thanks!

We bred our mare to the young stallion Amazing by Balou Du Rouet. He has a puppy dog personality and is doing quite well for himself in the show ring. I can’t wait till our baby is on the ground this spring. His owner post on here and could give you more information on him and her experiences.

DYING to start my guy… sadly he’s only a year and a half so I have a while to go… jealous that you’re so close to riding age!
Mine is a wonderful mix of curious and ‘aware’ which I think will serve us VERY well when we get to his jumping years
He takes everything new in stride so I think he won’t be too tough to start.

He is a hack winning mover too… I think he’s going to be a really top hunter for the big jumps!
He is Balou x Indoctro/Nimmerdor.

I too have a coming three year old Balou except mine is a filly. I have been handling her a lot and just trying to make her comfortable in various situations such as taking her for walks around the property, loading, clipping, bathing… I don’t drive her crazy but do give her things to do as she is extremely intelligent and likes to use her brain. She tries very hard and seems to know something after you show her once or twice. I think at least for her, you would have to go slow and not push her too quickly because she can be a little fragile minded. I feel like if her energy is guided in the right direction, she will be a superstar. But if she were ever to get into the wrong hands, it would ruin her quicker than most. I sincerely hope that I am smart enough for this filly.

Hi-I am the owner of Amazing and can offer a little insight to what may be the typical Balou character. Worth a shot is right, on the ground he is an absolute doll. We were at a small schooling show yesterday and the ingate area is maybe 24X12. He stood there with three other horses while I reviewed our trips with a friend and he proceeded to fall asleep! Under saddle, he is at times too smart and wants so hard to do it right. If he gets confused or doesn’t understand, he gets very upset with himself. So in that regard, I’ve taken things very slowly with him. I always call him my overachiever! I find he and maybe other Balous it sounds like, thrive with consistent, patient exposure to work. Just let him tell you what he’s ready for and really listen to him and you should have a star on your hands! Have fun
