Grafted hybrid (chimera) of Cytisus purpureus (C & S Europe) onto Laburnum anagyroides (C & S Europe).

Bred by M.Adam (hence cultivar name), Paris 1825.

A small deciduous shrubby tree, height to 8m, spread 4m, grown for the novelty of its spring blossom.

Leaves are mid-green and pinnate, with three lanceolate leaflets.

Most branches bear a hybrid blossom of coppery-orange, while some bear either yellow laburnum or purple broom flowers.

Must have full sun, facing south or west. Equally happy in exposed or sheltered position. Grow in good, moist but well-drained soil; any texture, any acidity.

Seedpod of +Laburnocytisus ‘Adamii’

Formative pruning not usually required, but suckers should be fastidiously removed.

Suseptible to honey fungus. Generally pest-free although leaf miners or blackfly may be an occasional problem.

All parts of the plant are toxic.

Propagate by grafting onto laburnum seedlings in late summer to winter.

Best used as a specimen tree.
