Crystal Healing: Black Obsidian

Crystal Healing: Black Obsidian

To celebrate the launch of our new wellness services, we will be taking a deep dive into crystals and their energetic and spiritual benefits, with insight from our in-house healer Tor Njamo.

Crystals have been tools for spiritual wellness, manifestation, and renewal for centuries. From Palaeolithic talismans and amulets, to the Ancient Egyptian use of stones for protection and cosmetics (early eyeshadow was made from crystals such as Galena for kohl and Malachite ground to a powder), to the 1980’s New Age movement.

Fast forward to post-pandemic times, and crystals have gained new relevance within the concept of manifestation and a renewed focus on intentionalism. Our priorities have shifted to focus more on the things that matter, re-orientating our lifestyles to seek less distraction and more clarity. By incorporating crystals into a self-care routine, we can encourage a sense of mindfulness into our daily rituals.

“Our fast-paced contemporary culture is one based on speed and constant growth. On a societal level, there is not much we can do about this reality. On the other hand, there is much we can do individually”, says Tor. “We can design and integrate practices and rituals to help us slow down and restore our nervous system. One of the great resources for doing this is the use of crystals. In my treatments, I use guided meditation to open you up to the life force which moves through all of us, allowing us to become more receptive to healing, and crystals play a big part in enhancing this.”

With this in mind, we are excited to introduce our new Black Obsidian Gua Sha and facial rollers, made in Eastern Asia from high quality black obsidian. Crystal facial tools have long been used in skin care to create both physiological impact and energetic shifts. These facial tools are traditionally used in naturopathy to promote blood circulation, relieve tension and blockages and aid lymphatic drainage.

Black Obsidian - also known as volcanic glass - is formed from molten lava that has cooled very quickly. Having come directly from a volcano, black obsidian is unique in that it contains the elements of earth, water, and fire. Known to be cleansing and grounding, it is rooted in the base chakra with a strong connection to the earth. The strong magnetic power it holds has many health benefits, said to draw out infection and help with digestive issues.

“Black Obsidian is often referred to as the psychic vacuum cleaner, because it is excellent at clearing out any unhelpful psychic energy within and around you”, says Tor. “The presence of Black Obsidian is great for protection from heavy energies, both spiritually and from the people around us, as well as restoring our root chakra, where much of our stress is stored. In your practice or ritual, you might want to pair Black Obsidian with a Smokey Quartz to further balance and ground.”

You can purchase one of our Gua Sha or facial rollers both online or in store now, as well as a selection of crystals specifically selected, cleansed and charged by Tor.
