The japonica Camellias are easy to grow large flowering shrubs for part shade. They can reach over 20’ high so give them plenty of room.


Camellia japonica ‘Debutante’ is one of the first Camellias to bloom in the winter. It will continue to bloom into mid March.

The tea plant is actually a Camellia whose new growth is pruned off, dried and ground to fill tea bags. This is Camellia sinensis ‘Lipton Plantation’.

Sasanqua Camellias

The Sasanqua Camellias generally bloom in the fall not in the winter/spring like the japonica Camellias. They are often used as hedges or groundcovers.
