Chinese Drugs of Plant Origin

Abstract

Yimucao, Herba Leonuri, is the dry aboveground part of Leonurus heterophyllus Sweet (Lamiaeeae) collected in the summer when the plant is growing rapidly but has not bloomed. It is officially listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Herba Leonuri is a traditional Chinese medicine most used in the treatment of gynecologic disorders such as menorrhagia, menostasia, and other irregular menstruation. It is also used as a diuretic in the treatment of edema and acute nephritis.
