This working sundial model was commissioned by the National Maritime Historical Society in 1987 as a part of their Great Instruments of Discovery Series. 

It is a precision calibrated scientific instrument crafted in solid brass.  It was created for them by the Franklin Mint in the years leading up to the 500th anniversary of Columbus's voyage to America.  This item is in mint condition with it's original box and certificate of authenticity.
