S. striatum is a clump-forming perennial, to 80cm tall, with fans of grey-green, narrow, linear to lance-shaped leaves. In summer, stiff, upright stems carry clusters of pale yellow, star-shaped flowers along their length
When the leaves die they go black and look very unslightly, especially in winter, but worse is the way it seeds. It is essential that you cut off the spent flower spikes as soon as the last flowers fade to prevent seeds being cast all over the garden.
Rapidly germinating, keep seed in constant moisture (not wet) with temperatures of about +20°C [68°F]. Seeds must be covered thinly.
