Shia LaBeouf went so far as to channel his character in his upcoming film, The Tax Collector, he even got his entire chest tattooed for the role.

For the soon-to-be-released crime thriller, LaBeouf plays a tax collector named Creeper for a local crime lord that cuts his profits from gangs. To truly portray the role, the actor decided to actually get inked with the tattoo his character Creeper would have throughout the movie.

"He's one of the best actors I've worked with, and he's the most committed to body and soul. He had a tooth pulled on Fury, and then on Tax Collector, he got his whole chest tattooed," said Tax Collector's director David Ayer in an interview with Slash Film. "So he kind of goes all in, and I've never known anyone that committed."

LaBeouf's full chest tattoo features his character's name, "CREEPER," written across his lower abdomen in all capital letters. Above that, a tattoo featuring an image of a woman leaning her head on what appears to be a clown. There's also some ink of the signage for "Route 071" on his left shoulder.

After the first trailer for The Tax Collector dropped last week, some people criticized the film for glorifying gang culture and accused LaBeouf of brownfacing.

"Shia LaBeouf — only white boy in cast of brown/black people bc they couldn't find one more qualified brown or black actor in Hollywood?" one Twitter user asked.

Ayer addressed the controversy over the weekend on Twitter when one person asked him: "Hey, really important question that I think you should answer publicly in 2020. Is Shia Lebouf playing a Latino character in Tax Collector? If so, why didn't you cast a Latin actor?"

The director replied saying: "Really important answer — Shia is playing a whiteboy who grew up in the hood. This is a Jewish dude playing a white character. Also the only white dude in the movie 💁‍♂️."

"I grew up hood and I'm a whiteboy," Ayer continued in another tweet. "Chicano culture is inclusive — I've seen whiteys, Asians, Blacks, Filipinos all putting in work for the hood. It's part of street culture."

The Tax Collector is available on demand on August 7.
