This day-flowering evening primrose is performs beautifully, flowering with great profusion for up to two months in summer, with flowers opening during the day and shutting again at night. Evening primrose grows well in well-draining soil, perfect for rock gardens and sunny, dry conditions. 'Fireworks' is the american name of the cultivar, initially named 'Fyrverkeri'("fireworks" in norwegian-- suggesting that this cultivar was developed in Norway before returning to the American market). Its purple-tinged leaves combine with the broad yellow flower and green stem to justify the name, and its growth habit ranges from recumbant, stem zig-zagging close to the ground, or strongly upright, depending on the source. This cultivar is highly regarded for its persistent bloom and unique foliage.
