summary: Pink flowering ornamental tree. Heavy blossom clusters, rust colour on new leaves, turning dark green in summer. Turning orange in fall. Flowers are moderately large. Fruit is about the size of a cherry and can be used to make apple jelly.
uses: An excellent and colourful source of pollen for small orchards.
origins: Bred in the early 1900s by Charles Eley of Suffolk, England. May have been Malus pumila Niedzwetakyana crossed with Malus spectablis, although that has come under question.
cultivation: Vigorous. Biennial. Grows up to four metres in height and in spread. Tolerates Hardiness Zones 4 to 8. Favours acidic soils.
ploidism: Diploid. Self fertile.
flowers: Red buds opening to pink blossoms.
foliage: New foliage has reddish colour.
fruit: Red, cherry size.
hardiness: 4
