Abstract/Description:
Pierre-Joseph Redouté's Allium ursinum displays tremendous realism. Occasionally known as ramsons, the plant joins other fifty-nine other petaloid monocotyledons featured in the volume six of Redouté's masterpiece Les Liliacées. The artist simulates convincing leaves with accurate value, color, and texture from an intense study clearly based from life. Wispy roots protrude from the hooked end of the plant's stem, adding an ethereal aesthetic to the otherwise vivid print. Redouté's Allium ursinum depicts a scientific botanical with masterful naturalism.
