Scarlet Flame Phlox
Common Names: Creeping Phlox; Moss Phlox; Flowering Moss
A sun-loving, spring-blooming herbaceous perennial that has a dense, spreading, mat-like forming habit, growing up to only 6 inches tall but spreads 18-24 inches wide. The needle-like, awl-shaped foliage remain bright green after blooming and retain some green in winter. Flowers bloom April-May.
Regarded as one of the most colorful ground covers, Creeping Phlox is also vigorous, hardy, trouble-free and deer and rabbit resistant. Tolerates drought, erosion, and air pollution while suppressing weeds. Requires minimal maintenance and makes an excellent choice for slopes and hillsides.
Uses include rock gardens, borders and edges, slopes and banks, wildlife gardens, foundation plantings, naturalized areas, and carpet bedding. It may also be used to drape slightly over a low rock wall or in containers.
Best flowering is in full sun, but plants generally appreciate some dappled sun in areas with hot, humid summers. Pet and pollinator friendly.
