Malus x moerlandsii 'Profusion' is a small deciduous tree that produces slightly fragrant, claret red flowers in spring. The flowers mature to cherry-like dark-red crab apples. For those who enjoy trying out their skills in the kitchen, the crab apples can be used to make delicious crab apple jelly and jams. The tree has a spreading habit with attractive bronze-purple leaves that mature to a dark green with crimson veins.

This Crabapple tree is fully hardy and will thrive in full sun or partial shade. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil and can tolerate urban pollution, making it ideal for in-city gardens.

Left to grow it will reach a height of 5m and a spread of 4m. It can be pruned in autumn after fruiting to keep the shape neat.

Profusion is just that – a glorious profusion of rich colours and fruits. It will attract bees, butterflies and birds into your garden, adding sound and movement to a dull corner or becoming an eye-catching focal point. The Profusion offers flowers from a young age, making it ideal to plant in a newly established garden. If kept pruned to a smaller size, it is ideal to add colour and interest to miniature ornamental gardens or a patio. If left to spread, it will certainly be the main attraction in your garden.
