Arisaka Type 2 Parachutist's Rifle
Description
Arisaka Type 2 Parachutist's bolt action take down. A locking key with a D ring goes through the receiver and engages a slot in the barrel. The receiver top is marked with a chrysanthemum that has been part filed off over three Japanese characters indicating Type 2 with the serial number and the Nagoya Arsenal stamp on the left. The stock is full wood and has sling swivels on the left side. The rear sight has fold down side bars on the leaf. The weapon has been made up from two rifles with the number 990 on the barrel and 252 on the receiver section of the joining plates. The feed device is a 5 round nondetachable, staggered row box magazine. Front sight is of the barleycorn type with protecting ears and the rear sight is of the leaf type.
History / Summary
This type of rifle was introduced in May 1943. Its barrel and fore end were held to the receiver by a sliding transverse wedge which was an ideal solution for a take down rifle to be used by paratroops.
