Japanese Temari Decorative Ornaments - Sewing on a sphere
Temari is a folk craft born in ancient Japan from the desire to amuse and entertain children. Today, these beautiful thread-wrapped balls are enjoyed as miniature works of art. There are a number of patterns to choose from:  Autumn Moon, Hands Around the World, Cranes and Bamboo, Twin Darts, Striped Obi, Bellflower, Sunflower, Emperor, Empress, Blue Arrows, Trillium, Heaven's River, & Dogwood.  The Dogwood Pattern has become my favorite pattern to use.  It looks different every time, just by switching what colors you choose to sew with.  Hope these images intrigue and fascinate you as much as they did for me in creating the Temari shown here.
These were 22 Temari Decorative Balls that were purchased by a friend for her department gift at work.
They were made over a course of 2 - 3 months.
