Matthias Schoenaerts is keeping everything crossed for an Eddie Redmayne Oscar win at the upcoming Academy Awards.

The 38-year-old A Bigger Splash actor - who plays childhood friend Hans Axgil to Redmayne's Lili Elbe - told Digital Spy: "I don't have the time to go to the Oscars because I'm preparing for a film and just want to hide out.

"And hopefully, fingers crossed, Eddie and Alicia come home with an Oscar. I really hope so. I had a blast working on it. I love Tom Hooper and I love the entire team, and so fingers crossed."

On upcoming future projects, he revealed: "I'm reteaming with a friend of mine that I shot Bullhead with and The Drop... [and it will have] French actress Adele Exarchopoulos.

"So we're shooting at the end of April. I'm really looking forward to that, and then there's a couple of things coming up we need to sort our schedules for. There's some tough nuts to crack.

"I'll also be reteaming with Thomas Vinterberg from The Hunt and Far from the Madding Crowd.

"So we're doing a film based on a submarine drama called Kursk, scheduled for October."

Matthias won Best Actor at the Elle Style Awards last night.

Other guests and winners at the event included Liv Tyler, Elizabeth Olsen and model Karlie Kloss.
