British Appaloosa
About The Breed:
Humans have long been captivated by the appearance of spotted horses. In France they were depicted in prehistoric cave drawings, in England they were illustrated in early manuscripts, in American they were cherished by the Nez Perce tribe.
As the spotted horses developed into breeds their stories were often intertwined, but still unique. Lines from around the world, including American and Denmark, eventually converged in Britain.
For decades the various sizes and types were recognized by the British Spotted Horse and Pony Society. In 1976 the horses and ponies were separated into two Societies, and the British Appaloosa Society was formed. They implemented a grading system as well as stallion licensing and now have six generations of documented breeding. Color patterns include; Spotted blanket, White blanket, Marble, Leopard, Near Leopard, Few-spot Leopard, Near Few-spot, Snowflake, Frosted hip, and solid. The British Appaloosa is an all arounder and called, "A Horse for All Reasons."
