Lusitanos

The rare Iberian horse that legend has was sired by the wind…

The Lusitano horse is one of the oldest breeds of saddle horses in the world. Originating from Portugal, the elegant and talented Lusitano originally developed as a wild bull-fighting horse. As such, they are wonderfully versatile, agile, bold, and intelligent, with a naturally ingrained “cow sense.” Lusitanos are also notoriously kind and gentle. It is for all of these qualities and more that we at Foxfire Farm have fallen in love with this incredible breed.

The Lusitanos on our farm - Frederico ASMOHR (Lavrador X Vida Lam/Othelo RET), Quasar CAL (Jade II Da Sernadin X Beezabilla/Jalifa), and Beezabilla (Jalifa X Jiribilla/Espartaco) have shown us that they can bravely face the variables of a trail ride one day and excel in a recognized dressage competition the next.

We are thrilled to begin our burgeoning Lusitano breeding program with our expected incoming foal by Grand Prix, multi-gold medal-winning, Champion of Champions Lusitano stallion, Bariloche JGR (Rouxinol/Xaquiro x Orgulhosa/Hostil), via Lusitano mare, Dotzeebilla JWP (Quitop x Jirabilla/Espartaco). Bariloche is a 4 stars recommended stallion at Model and Gaits by the APSL and has scored second best Lusitano Horse in dressage in the Rolex World Ranking List 2017.

We look forward to many more lovely foals and to growing the influence of this special breed in the United States.
