Description

Aster × frikartii 'Wunder von Stäfa' AGM

Height x Spread: 50-100cm x 10-50cm.

A vigorous clump form perennial with dark green lanceolate foliage and tall branching stems. The flowers are large daisy like structures with blue petals and a central disc of yellow fading to rusty orange, and each flower is up to 5cm across.

Best planted in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. An open, airy site is best as good air flow will help the plant avoid diseases like mildew. Fully hardy in the UK as long is the plant is not subjected to prolonged Winter wet. The flowers are long lasting but cut back spent stems to avoid the plant seeding about, as the seeds will not be true to the parent. Cutting back the long stems also helps to avoid wind rock in the Winter. The plant can be divided in early Spring once established.

Ideal, pollinator friendly, plant for coastal, courtyard, city, wildlife, cottage and informal gardens. Can also be used in large containers, beds and borders, and makes an excellent cut flower due to the longevity of the blooms and strong stems.
