You might know Jason Momoa for his charismatic portrayal of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, or perhaps his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, but there is more to the man than meets the eye. While many fans are familiar with his on-screen persona, there are some intriguing aspects of Jason Momoa's life that remain lesser known.

With the eagerly anticipated Aquaman 2 on the horizon in December, and Fast X set to hit our cinemas May 19, it's a wonder how our new cover star has much time for anything else between filming.

Well, it turns out the on screen titan is involved in an array of projects and personal interests. From marine conservation to the secret behind the gaps in his eyebrows, we uncover five intriguing and (somewhat) lesser-known facts about the talent, myth and legend.

1. He's an Ambassador for Marine Conservation

While Momoa may dominate the oceans on screen, off screen he fights for its preservation. Raised in Norwalk, Iowa, he later returned to Hawaii where he discovered his passion for marine biology and took courses on the subject as a student. In the past he has fought to ban single-use plastics and in June 22, he was named the UN Environment Programme’s Advocate for Life Below Water for his activism with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, making him the true Aquaman.

    2. He Has a Scar on His Eyebrow

You may assume the gaps in Momoa's eyebrow are down to a stylistic choice to accompany his pink suits, however, you would be very wrong. The eyebrow styling is actually the result of an altercation in a bar leading to stitches and now, a scar. The incident happened in November 2008 before his role in Game of Thrones. 'It was crazy,' he told Access Hollywood, 'a guy smashed a pint glass in my face. I got a little over 140 stitches in my face.'

Whether it's a scar, or the result of a mistake at the barbers, it has certainly added to his trademark look.

    3. He's a Massive Fan of Guinness

It's no secret that Momoa is a big fan of the dark stuff. In 2022 he announced on Instagram that The Toucan, small pub nestled on the streets of Soho, was one of his favourites and that he even has his own brand of Guinness called 'Mano Brew'. Could the secret behind his six pack be a six pack of the branded beer? Probably not.

    4. He Has a Traditional Hawaiian Head Tattoo

In September 2022 the Aquaman actor spent two hours getting a traditional Hawaiian tattoo on the left side of his head which symbolises protection for his family and his aumakua, which in Hawaiian means 'guardian spirit'. He told MH US that it's his favourite tattoo and the triangle pattern represent shark teeth. These match the tattoos on his left forearm where he has a half sleeve of connecting triangles.

    5. He Has a Pet Pig

In November 2022, Momoa adopted a wild pig named 'Manapua' that he met on the set of Slumberland. Sharing a video of himself and his new pet, he said: 'This is why I can’t work with animals. I want to bring them home. Wild and feral like his pops'.

The Dune actor is a devout animal lover and has an eclectic mix of pets. Along with his pet pig, he also has 'half wolves', a donkey and a python, to name a few.
