Description

Low, slightly hairy, creeping plant, stems square and rooting readily. Leaves opposite, rounded or oblong, with blunt teeth. Flowers greenish, 3 to 4 mm, surrounded by bright yellow-green leafy bracts.

Damp shady places, streamsides, wet woodland.

UK Status

Common in most parts of Britain, but less so around East Anglia.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 55 of the 617 tetrads

In the current checklist (Jeeves 2011) it is listed as locally frequent; axiophyte
