Heuchera Spotlight

Heuchera is a staple evergreen for any garden planting scheme and provides great ground cover, leaf shape and contrast with many companions. However the choice of Heuchera’s today is vast with leaf and flower (coral bells) colour combinations that can become overwhelming and confusing. As a result many who are seduced by a leaf colour from the vast collections available online, in garden centre’s and in nursery’s become disappointed when they flower with coral bells that are often either too dainty or coloured in such a way to create an inharmonious overall effect.

At Pen and Barrow there are 2 varietals that we particularly love despite being out of fashion and difficult to source, Heuchera cylindrica 'Greenfinch' and ‘Brownfinch’. Both have classic green leaf shape, (Brownfinch with silver contrast) grow well and have large, simple, dazzling coral bells that provide an amazing visa when planted en mass or as vertical interest amongst a small or large border.

Sometimes simple classics are the best.
