Malus sylvestris var. domestica (syn. Malus x domestica) 'Cox's Orange Pippin', an old semi-russet variety that is still popular due to it's wonderful flavour. It originated in England in 1830 but did not enter commercial production until the 1850s. While still a popular orchard apple in Britain, it's susceptibility to disease, generally small size and relatively poor keeping ability have seen it superseded in many areas. Order: Rosales, Family: Rosaceae
