Haberlea rhodopensis, is Tertiary relict plant endemic to the Balkan region, especially the Rhodope mountains in Bulgaria. Haberlea is also known as Orpheus flower and Resurrection plant because of its remarkable ability to survive very long periods of desiccation. It is protected medicinal plant and its removal from nature is prohibited. Haberlea is believed to have existed before the ice age.
