An erect, clump-forming herbaceous perennial to 1.2m tall, bearing toothed leaves on upright stems; the foliage is light green with yellow-green mottling and marbling. Tiny golden yellow flowers are borne in slender flowerspikes in late summer. The flowers are good for attracting pollinating insects and also make good cut flowers
