Choosing astilbes: dwarf forms

The range of dwarf astilbes has expanded in recent years and these compact plants can be grown at the front of damp borders or even in containers, if watered regularly. Their parentage varies, but most hybrids include Astilbe simplicifolia, which gives them their small stature. Other short forms are cultivars of A. chinensis. All are under 60cm (2ft) in height.
