Leontopodium alpinum, Edelweiss

$3.99
Does bringing your love Edelweiss really mean you love them? Historically, yes! Many brave young men faced peril to retrieve a single flower, a German author in 1861 wrote, “The possession of one is proof of unusual daring.” What about in 2023? Hmm maybe.

This very popular perineal found wild in the Alps will have you running around on a hillside and spinning like a deranged lunatic, but nobody really important is watching, so go for it.

These lovely flowers grow in clumps and can be used as ground cover or to fill in small areas between bricks or tiles. A number of times you will find them in rock gardens. They will thrive in well draining soil. The plant can grow up to 8 inches high, blooming late spring through summer.

**********COLD STRATIFICATION REQUIRED***********

These seeds are tiny and require a bit of care for germination. We recommend sowing them indoors about 6-8 weeks prior to the last frost. Surface sow seeds uncovered and cold stratify for two-three weeks. Keep soil moist, use only a spray bottle on mist setting, harder water pressure can dislodge seeds an bury them too deeply to germinate. Place pot in a spot that gets bright, but indirect light. Germination is 2 weeks to 6 weeks, please be patient.
