Trumpet Creeper Vine, Trumpet Creeper

A tough, fast growing vine. Most common species in our area is C. radicans, but there are many hybrids and cultivar available. Lush, bright to medium green foliage and clusters of large, broadly trumpet-shaped flowers. Flowers are most commonly red-orange, but also available in orange, apricot and pink-orange varieties. Large, woody seedpods follow. Fall color is not showy. Older branches become woody and will eventually form a trunk. Trim close to the ground in winter or early spring to renew growth or back to main branches if you prefer having a trunk. Make sure it has something sturdy to grow on and plenty of room to spread. It will invade rain gutters and rooflines if not carefully watched and pruned away. Suckers freely from the roots. Make sure to pull them out or cut them down well below the soil surface. May cause skin irritation. Blooms best in full sun. Hummingbirds love the flowers.
