At this point in baking history, we’ve pretty much seen every type of dessert you can imagine. We’re, of course, familiar with the classics, like cookies and brownies. We’ve even become fans of crosses of the classics, like the beloved brookie! And would you believe us if we told you that over four million people on TikTok have dreamt of (if not eaten) these inventive Creme Egg croissants? The one thing we hadn’t heard of, at least until recently, is the crookie: the latest TikTok food trend that combines a chocolate chip cookie with a buttery croissant!

The concept first came to light (or at least the light of our phone screens) when a TikTok user posted a video of the pastry hybrid from the Maison Louvard bakery in Paris, France. The video from @annakloots of Le Crookie has since garnered almost a million views and counting! In the clip, Anna pans over the piles of pastries and its accompanying sign, which reads "Croissant pur beurre garnit d’une généreuse pâte à cookie mi-cuite.” (If you can’t read French, just know that it’s a butter croissant stuffed and topped with cookie dough!) “It’s kind of like a croissant and a pain au chocolat,” Anna explains before devouring the warm, gooey treat.

The rest of TikTok (particularly #baketok) soon caught onto the French bakery’s creation, leading a smattering of crookie recreations by those who couldn’t try the original in Paris. Calling for nothing but pre-made butter croissants and chocolate chip cookie dough, the recipe is as easy as pie (or should we say cookies)!

One TikTok user, @naughtyfork, amassed 2.8 million views on her video demonstrating how to make crookies at home.

Another TikTok creator, @_ivykasta, also recreated the recipe, adding that it’s “best served warm so the center cookies are still gooey 🍪,” she said in the caption. Also in her caption is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the croissant cookie, including exact baking instructions.

To start, preheat your oven to 350°F and cut a fresh croissant in half like a sandwich. Then, stuff around three pieces of cookie dough inside the croissant, depending on its size. To finish, top each croissant with three more pieces of cookie dough, then bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the cookie croissants are golden brown.

“This would definitely fix whatever is wrong with me,” one user jokingly commented on @naughtyfork's crookie recreation video, receiving over 15 thousand likes.

Another user took to the comments of @_ivykasta’s tutorial with a suggestion on how to improve the recipe. “Also works great with puff pastry. I make cookie sticks wrapped in a ribbon of puff pastry,” he said.

With visions of gooey cookies and airy croissants floating around in our heads, we’re already thinking about how else we can tweak this recipe—like subbing in Ree Drummond’s triple chocolate cookie dough for even more chocolatey goodness. Let us know if you end up trying this crookie recipe or any variation in the comments below!
