He flew to Sicily, home of the Mafia, for a break before intending to make a short film in Italy. But the nation locked down from March 9.
Ray said: “I was here a few days before the crew were due to arrive.
“That’s where it went a bit pear-shaped.
“It’s difficult not speaking the language.
“You’ve just got to be brave and crack on.”
The Sexy Beast star is believed to be at a home he bought for £44,000 in 2013 and renovated for £1.1million.
Wife Elaine and daughters Lois, 38, Jaime, 35, and Ellie Rae, 19, are not with him.
He has appeared on a West Ham podcast and filmed a Crowdfunder appeal for virus victims — admitting he’s desperate for the pub.
Ray also called for the Queen’s honours list to be filled with frontline workers, saying: “The NHS has gone above and beyond.”
