How to trim your clematis like a professional

May-flowering Clematis montana may not have blooms as big as those of the large-flowered summer varieties, nor in so many colours, but they are far more numerous. And it’s not just a clematis for throwing a cloak of colour up a wall or over another plant; it is a plant big and bold enough to do a practical job all by itself, perhaps covering an old apple tree, dead ash or hiding a garage.
