Ray Winstone, the tough-guy actor best known for performances in Robin of Sherwood, Beowulf and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, has admitted that others in his profession have criticised him for his lucrative Bet365 commercials.
Speaking on today’s Desert Island Discs, the 57-year-old admits that “other actors give stick as if it is something you should not be doing as an artist”. But Winstone, who has been fronting the online Bet365 commercials since 2009, then goes on the offensive: “I don’t do bank commercials or insurance commercials where you don’t have a choice. You have a choice to bet.”
