Ribes roezlii var. cruentum - Sierra Gooseberry

Found mostly in the coastal range and parts of the Sierra's, it makes a little known but spectacular ornamental and edible. The small bushy plants are covered in fuchsia-like flowers during spring, followed by spiny-skinned, red, edible gooseberry fruits. Deciduous, bushy growth to 4-5 ft / 1.5 m. Zones 5-9. #3866
