Robert De Niro may be best known for the gruff, intimidating characters he’s played onscreen over the past five decades. And he may have a reputation for being a difficult interview. But over the past few weeks, we’ve also learned some surprisingly sweet details about the Oscar-winning actor. For example, he claims to be a fan of The Bachelor and an unapologetic devotee of the flip phone, no matter how many smart devices they make. And on Tuesday, we learn that the actor can also be appropriately sensitive about the questions he is asked during interviews.

During a press day for The Intern—a day when actors are subjected to hours’ worth of repetitive, back-to-back interviews—De Niro reportedly found himself at odds with the Radio Times’s reporter Emma Brockes, according to The Guardian. Per the report, Brockes rubbed the Hollywood legend the wrong way with questions about how Tribeca, the New York neighborhood where he founded his film festival, is now filled with bankers. She also is said to have asked how the actor avoids falling into “autopilot” mode on set after acting for fifty years.

The Guardian provides more details about the awkward interaction:

According to Brockes, who also writes features and a column for the Guardian, the actor then asked her to pause the recorder and got out of his chair, paced about “madly” before cutting the interview short because of the “negative inference” of what she had said.

“What, about the bankers?!” she asked. De Niro responded: “All the way through. Negative inference.” Brockes then asked where else he was referring to and he replied: “The whole way through and I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it, darling.” He then stuck his head out of the door to find someone to take him out of the room.

In other De Niro news, the actor found himself in additional entertainment headlines today after a remark that Josh Brolin made to Man of the World. Brolin wasn’t even talking about De Niro so much as complaining about a “young Hollywood punk” he worked with “who was from Ontario, but he talked like De Niro.” Brolin— who may or may not have been referring to his Gangster Squad co-star Ryan Gosling—continued, “I was like, Holy shit, he’s actually doing De Niro. Does he know that I know? I’m not even listening to what he’s saying. It’s fascinating to me.”

If it isn’t De Niro getting a tough time for disapproving of interview questions, it's some “young Hollywood punk” ripping off his unique delivery. We hope that the actor and The Intern star can unwind from all of this media chaos today by turning off his flip-phone and catching up on a few episodes of The Bachelor. He’s earned it.
