Spencer Pratt and Justin Bobby Haven’t Changed Too Much Since The Hills

The world spins. Seasons change. Reality stars get older. You’re getting older, too. Take comfort, then, in the fact that as time creeps forward, some things never change. One of those things is the men of The Hills, a foundational text of mid-aughts interpersonal drama played out on television.

It’s been over a decade since the first episode aired, but every other year, members of the cast will bubble up in interviews or through sheer force of social media, whisper “still here, still the same,” and plunge back into the depths of public consciousness. Spencer Pratt and Justin Bobby Brescia, the series’s most memorable villains, have both poked their heads up to the surface within days of each other, and one full week after their co-star Lauren Conrad’s anniversary special aired on MTV.

In a feature on nighttime routines, Pratt told The Cut what he keeps on his bedside table. It’s a Glock and a rose quartz crystal. A Glock. And rose quartz. I read on healingcrystals.com that rose quartz is the “stone of unconditional love” and “fosters empathy, reconciliation, and forgiveness of others.” I read on glock.com that Glock is the gun of “Confidence. It’s what you carry.” See? Spence will always lean into his Hills persona.

Justin Brescia, known publicly as “Justin Bobby,” still wears combat boots to the beach according to an interview on Broadly. He doesn’t cut hair anymore, but he’s maintained his iconic beard. He still plays music. And he has some nice things to say about Pratt and Heidi Montag, Pratt’s wife and erstwhile Hills co-star: “I really liked them a lot. I liked that their love stayed true—I mean they had so much [ridicule] for doing what they’re doing, and they’re still together, and they’re still saying, ‘Fuck you.’ That to me is like, ‘You guys won all the way around.’”

As J.B. once said, “Truth and time tells all,” and the truth is after all these years, The Hills leading men have largely stayed the same. It almost makes you believe the show wasn’t for the most scripted.
