Aquilegia is the first perennial of spring. The pretty blooms, in a range of attractive colours, are carried on delicate wiry stems and will quickly naturalise to form a crowd of spring flowers. These magnificent hybrids are perfectly suited to cottage garden borders and also make fabulous cut flowers. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Pot up aquilegia plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. Grow aquilegia in sun or part shade in fertile, moist, well drained soil.

Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten
