Italian fashion group OTB is lining up a new CEO for Parisian brand Maison Margiela, one of the key growth drivers in its portfolio.

OTB, which acquired Maison Margiela in 2002, confirmed that Gianfranco Gianangeli has stepped down as CEO and will leave in the next few weeks, with a successor also to be announced in the coming weeks. Gianangeli’s next move has not yet been disclosed.

Gianangeli joined Maison Margiela in 2020 from his family’s knitwear company, Gianangeli, and had previously held positions at Givenchy as global retail director, Prada as associate commercial COO and Bottega Veneta as general merchandising manager. OTB declined to comment further on his departure.

In February, OTB revealed that Maison Margiela’s annual sales grew 24 per cent in 2022, which it attributed to the brand’s “evolution” under creative director John Galliano, who joined in 2014. The brand opened stores in Honolulu, Dallas and Shanghai during the year, and boosted its e-commerce capabilities by joining OTB’s omnichannel platform Moon and unveiling a website redesign spearheaded by Galliano.

Maison Margiela moved to a new headquarters in Place des États-Unis in Paris, which officially opened in January — the same month as the brand returned to the men’s fashion week schedule with its first ready-to-wear runway since before the pandemic (showing a co-ed collection for Autumn/Winter 2023).

Gianangeli’s departure follows a number of executive shifts at OTB this year: in February, Diesel CEO Eraldo Poletto stepped down after seven months in the role (no successor has been named yet), and earlier this month Jil Sander announced that Luca Lo Curzio has been appointed to lead as CEO, taking over from OTB Group CEO Ubaldo Minelli who has overseen the brand since its acquisition in 2021.
