Artist Rachid ben ali Painting
Acrylic paint on canvas
65×50×2 cm period 2010 to the present
In 2001 and 2003 he had exhibitions in Galerie Tanya Rumpff in Haarlem , the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam . Queen Beatrix selected one of his paintings to introduce an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum.
In 2003 he won the KunstRAI prize for young artists [2] and in 2005 40 of his most recent paintings were shown at the Cobra Museum of Modern Art in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam. [3]
His work has led to anger and threats from Islamic militants in the Netherlands. He went into hiding after receiving death threats in connection with an exhibition at which "hate imams" spit bombs. Since then he needs bodyguards, the costs of which are paid by the Cobra Museum.
